Abstract
α- and ɛ-N-substituted lysine give distinctively different spectra when reacted with ninhydrin in methylcellosolve solution. The difference in spectra can be easily applied to provide a sensitive as well as a qualitative method for determining each of these isomers in the presence of the other. The spectra of the ninhydrin products from a number of derivatives of lysine and ornithine were examined.
