Unreliable Boron Analyses in Palæosalinity Investigations

Abstract

EMPHASIS has been placed on boron concentration in illites as a measure of palæosalinity. Walker and Price1 and Walker2, however, suggest that observed boron concentrations be adjusted to correspond to 100 per cent illite containing 8.5 per cent potassium dioxide, using the observed K2O content, before estimating the palæosalinity.
