Relative Activity of the Gibberellins in the Antheridium Induction in Anemia phyllitidis

Abstract

DATA on the comparative effectiveness of gibberellins have recently been published by some authors1–5. A further very sensitive reaction caused by these plant hormones has been found in our laboratory6. If gibberellin is applied to germinating spores of Anemia phyllitidis or Lygodium japonicum antheridia are formed at an early developmental state of the prothallia. The effect is very similar to that observed by Döpp7 and Näf8 with an isolated natural factor.
