Abstract
IN a recent paper1, it was shown histochemically that glycogen synthesis began earlier than the appearance of phosphorylase in some tissues of the chick embryo. In skeletal muscle, in particular, glycogen synthesis preceded the appearance of phosphorylase by about ten days1,2. Because of that finding, it was suggested that the chick embryo, like the adult mammal, may be synthetizing glycogen through the uridine diphosphate glucose-glycogen (UDPG) pathway.
