Distribution as a Determinant of Iron Hepatotoxicity

Abstract

EXAMINATION of clinical material of an appropriate nature indicates not only that iron is hepatotoxic, but suggests the definition of the conditions under which this is so. The most critical of these appears to be the parenchymal accumulation of iron to a level at which liver cell death is effected1. An attempt to verify this concept in laboratory animals has resulted in an affirmation of this point of view.
