Abstract
As valine and isoleucine are essential amino-acids for animal organism, the mechanism of their biosynthesis in higher plants is of importance. Experiments carried out with micro-organisms have shown that the two final steps in biosynthesis of valine and isoleucine are based on the dehydration of their α,β-dihydroxy-analogues to α-keto-analogues, which are further metabolized by transamination1.
