Manufacture of Alkali-free Corundum of Tabular Crystal Form

Abstract

THERE are several modifications of aluminium oxide, the most important of which are α- and γ-forms. The latter cannot be considered as aluminium oxide proper, since it contains substantial quantities of alkali oxide, α-Aluminium oxide, corundum, constitutes the basic material of several ceramic products or plays an important part in the formation of some of these products1.
