Abstract
THE staining procedure of blood smears, which distinguishes between fœtal and adult hæmoglobin, described by Kleihauer, Braun, and Betke1, provides an additional biochemical possibility to follow the early hæmatopoiesis of small fœtuses. When blood smears from fœtuses of different ages are prepared by this technique one obtains a fairly good idea of the change in the proportion of fœtal to adult hæmoglobin.
