Abstract
IN the course of work on thermophilic, aerobic, spore-forming bacteria, we have observed that the thermophilic cells contain, in certain conditions, a principle, which, when added in small quantity to a fresh culture medium, permits an inoculum of a mesophilic organism to grow at elevated temperatures. Moreover, this induced thermophily is carried from one transfer to another for an indefinite period.
