Abstract
IN 1955, Kiuru and Tybeck1 isolated a phage specific for 1 strain of Lactobacillus lactis and a phage working on 2 strains of L. helveticus. These phages were isolated from cultures used in the manufacture of Swiss cheese. In 1958, Meyers et al. 2 reported the isolation from saliva of phages active on 7 Lactobacillus species. The host-range of these phages was not indicated.
