Abstract
DETAILED observations have been recently reported of radiation emission in germanium and silicon, which has been interpreted in terms of exciton recombination with emission and absorption of phonons1,2. In view of the similarities between these substances and diamond, it is of interest to look for analogous emission in the latter.
