Abstract
THE melanophore-aggregating hormone of the pituitary of Gadus callarias 1 and Cyprinus carpio 2 has been shown to be concentrated in the meta-adenohypophysis (pars intermedia). In Parasilurus asotus the hormone is concentrated in the meso-adenohypophysis (Übergangsteil)3. Spinal-sectioned minnows (Phoxinus phoxinus) are able to maintain the white background response after hypophysectomy provided some of the anterior part of the pituitary remains after the operation but not if the whole pituitary is removed4.
