Abstract
SOLANINE is usually identified by the colours given with various sulphuric acid reagents1, which have also been used for the quantitative estimation of this alkaloid2–4. These sulphuric acid reagents, although suitable for identification or determination of the pure alkaloid from potatoes, with the crude substance extracted from viscera give rise to considerable charring, which makes identification difficult and estimation almost impossible.
