Abstract
THE granula of mast cells are known to contain mucopolysaccharide heparin1. It is active in the mechanism of the coagulation of blood and, moreover, according to more recent research, participates in the clearing of lipæmic serum as a component of the clearing factor2. The mechanism of liberation of heparin from the granula of mast cells was hitherto unknown, Degranulation of mast cells is not followed by disturbances in blood coagulation, even if it is extensive3,4.
