Abstract
THE occurrence of a polyhedrosis in larvæ of Prodenia litura (Fabr.) was first observed by Gough1, Dudgeon2, and Willcocks and Bahgat3 in Egypt and was also reported by Crumb4 from Europe and Caresche5 from Indo-China. Recently, Abul-Nasr6 found that this disease is a typical nuclear polyhedrosis. It occurs quite frequently in P. litura outbreaks in Egypt and causes heavy mortality in laboratory rearings. Because of the economic importance of the insect and the possible use of the virus for control purposes, it was decided to investigate the causative agent.
