Abstract
AT the suggestion of the late Prof. J. H. Orton, I undertook a comparative study of the ciliary feeding mechanisms of brachiopods, after Richards1 had reported a new method of ciliary feeding in Neothyris, which suggested that the main food and respiratory currents were produced by different methods in different brachiopods. Owing to the difficulty of obtaining diverse living material, it may be some time before the work can be completed and published ; a mechanism has been discovered, however, which probably accounts for the differences in the descriptions by Orton2 and Richards1 of feeding in Crania and Neothyris respectively.
