Liberation of Amino-acids by Plant Roots in relation to Desiccation

Abstract

PREVIOUS reports from this laboratory1–5 have shown that in the rhizosphere, or zone of influence of the roots of growing plants, there is a preferential stimulation of bacteria requiring amino-acids for maximum growth. This communication concerns the production of amino-acids by roots of several kinds of plants in an attempt to explain, at least in part, the preferential effect noted on this group of organisms.
