Abstract
IN the past, the infra-red spectra of solid materials which cannot readily be dissolved or prepared in very thin sheets have been determined by the use of suspensions of the substances in liquid paraffin (‘Nujol’). We have reported spectra of some coals obtained in this manner1, and observed that prolonged grinding is necessary in order to reduce the loss of radiation by scattering.
