Single-spore Cultures of Heterothallic Saccharomyces cerevisiæ which mate with both the Tester Strains

Abstract

Lindegren and Lindegren1 observed that rare single-spore cultures produce abundant copulation tubes when the culture reaches full growth, and that the cells from these cultures can conjugate with the cells of any other culture irrespective of its being (+) or (−). They regarded this as a loss of discriminatory power due to a mutation of the gene producing copulation tubes.
