Abstract
THE amphoteric ionic behaviour, one of the characteristics of proteins, has been considered to be due to the presence of the amino- and the carboxyl-groups in the side-chains of the polypeptide chain. Since the natural proteins consist of various amino-acids, and their structures are very complex, it is desirable, in order to study this particular property, to prepare an ampholyte of a simple structure containing many amino- and carboxyl-groups.
