Abstract
BEFORE his sudden death in 1942, Malinowski had spent three years in the United States, and this selection of his essays hails from the University of chicago. They do not always show their author at his best, for the vivid descriptions of savage life which made his books so deservedly successful are subordinated to generalizations, often made on insufficient data.
