Abstract
EXPERIMENTS on the behaviour of model suspension bridges in wind are being carried out n a large wind tunnel at Thurleigh, Bedfordshire. The tests form part of an investigation, which was indertaken by the National Physical Laboratory of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, to give guidance in the design of the proposed Severn Suspension Bridge. The work was begun early in 1946, and it is not only important to bridge engineers but also presents many features of interest to research workers in aerodynamics.
