Abstract
IT is well known that the scientific work leading to the design of an atomic bomb was carried out under conditions of the strictest secrecy, and even fundamental scientific information obtained in this connexion was jealously guarded. It is natural that under post-war conditions much of this information can be released, but there are obvious difficulties in publishing it in the normal way.
