Abstract
IN view of the important paper by Rittenhouse and Bertholf1 on the relative efficiency of gravity and centrifuge separation as applied to sedimentary analysis, it seems desirable to present the results of certain critical examinations of sedimentary technique carried out by us during the last five years. Though originally begun merely with the intention of assessing the relative merits of certain grain-counting methods (preliminary to the computation of mineral frequencies), our work has led us to a wider study of several of the sources of error likely to operate during laboratory treatment of sediments.
