Abstract
IN 1814 Sir John Sinclair, president of the Board of Agriculture, wrote: "At present there are a greater number of intelligent practical chemists in Scotland, in proportion to the population, than perhaps in any other country in the world"(J. Sinclair, "General Report", App. 2, p. 307).
