Abstract
Two main types of cosmic ray showers have been much investigated: (1) extensive air showers (Auger showers); (2) penetrating showers. Extensive air showers can be interpreted, according to Euler and Wergeland1, Nordheim2, and Bethe3, in terms of large electron cascades. Penetrating showers are probably produced by the process which is responsible for the production of the meson component of cosmic radiation.
