Abstract
A CENTENARY meeting of the Royal Anthropological Institute was held on October 30. The first part of the proceedings, at the Royal Society, consisted of addresses on the work of the Institute by Sir John Myres (see NATURE of October 30, p. 493) and on “The Role of Anthropology in Colonial Development” by Lord Hailey. This was followed by a symposium on the future of anthropology, held at the Institute, with the president, Prof. J. H. Hutton, in the chair. Four short papers on different branches of the subject were read, each being followed by a discussion.
