Abstract
HAVELOCK ELLIS'S book is a new edition, abridged and revised throughout, of the concluding volume of his monumental “Studies in the Psychology of Sex”, the greatest contribution to the subject ever made by any single writer. The original edition, however, is not thereby superseded, the present one being intended for a wider public. The author points out that thirty years ago his work on the problems of sex had tobe published in a way that made it accessible only to specialists, whereas since then social and legal opinion has so far changed that it can now be presented to all serious readers. This is an important fact. Forin the field of the marriage institution, only a very strong public opinion is able to effect reforms in the face of ancient entrenched traditions. Havelock Ellis says that this is particularly the case in England.
