Abstract
THE U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Washington, has awarded the Agassiz Medal for Oceanography to Dr. E. J. Allen, who was for forty-two years director of the Plymouth Laboratory of the Marine Biological Association. The Murray Fund, which was established for the award of the medal, was founded by Sir John Murray in 1911 to commemorate the oceanographical work of Alexander Agassiz. The medal was received on behalf of Dr. Allen by Mr. L. McCormick-Goodheart of the British Embassy at Washington, at a dinner held by the Academy on April 26.
