Abstract
UNDER the above heading, Prof. A. Szent-Györgyi makes the wide statement1 that respiration consists mainly of a reversible oxidation of succinic and malic acids to fumaric and hydroxy-fumaric (oxaloacetic) acids. Succinic and malic acids are activated by specific dehydrases and “only these two dehydrases seem to be connected immediately with the Warburg-Keilin system”.
