Abstract
IN the preface, the authors state that “the international spirit is as necessary in Geology as in Politics”. Undoubtedly, geological science cannot afford to be parochial in its outlook, though few geologists can hope to attain the world-wide experience of Prof. Gregory. The study of geology, however, should, like charity, begin at home, and unless a student is in possession of practical knowledge concerning the geology of his own country, he is not likely to profit by reading about the stratigraphical problems in lands beyond the seas.
