Abstract
THE Portuguese oyster, Ostrea (Grypæa) angulata, has been studied by many investigators, among others M. Bouchon-Brandley (1882), J. A. Ryder (1882), and J. L. Dantan (1912, 1914, 1918), but no one has ever recorded the occurrence of hermaphroditism in this species. It was believed that the sexes in this species were strictly separate, although other forms of Ostrea, such as O. edulis, O. lurida, and O. denselamellosa, are always hermaphroditic.
