Abstract
LONDON.—The Higher Education Subcommittee have presented to the London County Council Education Committee an important report on the recommendations of the Royal Commission on University Education in London, generally approving the proposals of the Commission with reference to the government of the University. The subcommittee considers that the Senate should have full and effective control, both educational and financial, over the proposed constituent colleges, without reference to the provisions of existing Acts and Charters. Upon this understanding, it is regarded as essential that the Imperial College of Science and Technology should become a constituent college of the University. The appointment of a small Senate, non-representative in character, is also approved, but exception is taken to the proposed constitution of the Committee of Technology, particularly in regard to the representation of constituent colleges on such committee. Kecommendations are also made as to widening the representation of teachers in the membership of the re-organised faculties.
