Abstract
THE Meteorological Office has issued a work on the “Principles of Forecasting by Means of Weather Charts,” which has been prepared at the request of the Council by the Hon. Ralph Abercromby.1 The object of the author has been to give an account of the modern method of forecasting weather by means of synoptic charts; and although the general principles laid down hold all over the world, the details he gives refer only to Great Britain. The whole system of synoptic forecasting depends entirely on the observed association of different sets of phenomena, and is totally independent of any theory of atmospheric circulation.
