There have been increasingly lively discussions about many published scientific results failing validation by independent studies. This so-called reproducibility crisis has led to criticisms of study design in animal research. Inappropriate statistical methods, poor experimental design, and extreme standardization in trial design may contribute to the problem. The purpose of this Collection is to present original methodologies to improve the status quo and to report meta-research about the reproducibility of published animal research.

Psychosocial stress is the consequence of an imbalance between the adverse experiences we meet in our everyday lives and our ability to cope with them. In recent years, psychosocial stress, in its acute and chronic forms, has become a topic of focus across multiple research fields and identified as a key detriment to health and well-being globally. This collection brings forth the latest research into the multifaceted consequences of psychosocial stress on the physical, mental, and social well-being of individuals. In it, we draw particular attention to the effects of social isolation and loneliness, a prominent issue faced in this time of mass lockdown and social distancing.

Detecting relevant markers at the clinical point-of-care may facilitate disease prevention and rapid treatment. Medical fields in which samples contain a limited amount of tissue or fluid require point-of-care technologies with improved sensitivity and specificity. The purpose of this Collection is to assemble original research on fluidics-based platforms made of paper or other low-cost materials to precisely manipulate small sample volumes, with a focus on their clinical applications.
