30 Days of Green: Day 1

Scitable's #30DayGreen challenge started today, Monday September 17th! Scitable bloggers and guest SV bloggers have several weeks of challenging "green" ahead, and they are off to a great start!

Here are just a few of the initiatives that #30DayGreen bloggers are taking on for the next 30 days:

- Recycling seriously within the home

- Composting in their back yards

- Biking to school instead of driving

- Reading academic and school papers online

- Printing only when necessary, and only on recycled paper

- No books, no DVDs, nothing that has an electronic equivalent

- Buying all recycled paper products

- Buying products in refillable packaging instead of paper packaging

- Shopping online

- Taking showers, not baths

- Buying local and seasonal food

- Buying only cosmetics from "eco-responsible" brands

Some of the topics bloggers will be discussing include how to recycle properly, initiatives of the Ecological Society of America, problems associated with waste management, the good and bad of "green" and "eco-responsible" products, and how communication messages can promote "green" attitudes and action.

Tweeters are also taking part using hashtag #30DayGreen!

@fromthelabbench I've been essentially paper free (except for necessary admin stuff) since I started my #PhD in September '10 :) #30DayGreen
