Postdoc

Summary

Description

Two competitive post-doctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Dorian McGavern at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA. The laboratory is focused primarily on understanding mechanisms of viral pathogenesis and clearance in the central nervous system (CNS). Advanced imaging techniques, such as intravital two photon microscopy, are used in combination with cellular and molecular approaches to provide a comprehensive understanding of how innate and adaptive immune cells locate and engage virus infected cells residing in the CNS. Laboratory projects include identifying novel regulatory factors used by the nervous system to limit immunopathogenesis, defining the consequences of T cell engagement of distinct CNS targets (e.g., neurons, epithelium, stromal network, etc), and imaging immune cells as they respond to states of acute and persistent viral infection.

Post-doctoral research in the laboratory spans the disciplines immunology, virology, and neuroscience, and thus candidates with training in any of these three areas are encouraged to apply. Of particular interest are candidates with training in molecular biology or bio-imaging techniques. Candidates should be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and have the desire to work with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary group.

Interested candidates should respond by email with a letter of introduction, a curriculum vitae, and the names of three references to:
