Metabolism Web Focus

Our understanding of cancer as a multi-step disease including complex metabolic rearrangements and changes in metabolic pathways involved in signalling, energy production and biosynthetic processes. The latest evidence suggest that metabolic rewiring is orchestrated by the concerted interplay of both oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, acting in conjunction with aberrant metabolic pathways. Indeed dysregulation of cellular metabolism is now included as an emerging hallmark of the characteristics of cancer cells. Previously this was seen as a minor secondary process within oncogenesis but we now know it plays a key role in controlling every step of the cancer process. In this Web Focus we highlight unique papers we have published highlighting the importance of metabolic reprogramming and its oncogenic consequences.
