Special Collection: Streptococcus A vaccines
npj Vaccines is proud to present this special collection on Streptococcus A vaccines, created in collaboration with the Strep A Vaccine Global Consortium (SAVAC) and guest editors Profs Jonathan Carapetis (Telethon Kids Institute, University of Western Australia), David Bloom (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health), and Dr David C. Kaslow (previously PATH, now FDA).
Streptococcus pyogenes (Strep A) is a worldwide cause of morbidity and mortality, with a spectrum of disease ranging from mild to life-threatening.This collection is centred around the hypothesis that prospective Strep A vaccines in reducing disease burden have been substantially undervalued, leading to under investment particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The editors therefore gathered articles on recent advances in vaccine development, but mainly focussing on innovative ways to assess the value of vaccination from health, economic, and social points of view.
The approaches outlined in this collection should also be useful for the assessment of the value proposition for vaccines against other infectious diseases.
