Immunology for dentistry is an excellent, comprehensive book edited by an international array of renowned academics who are repute in their respective fields. As mentioned by the authors in the preface of the book, the emergence of the concept of oral immunology from the ever-expanding insights of theoretical immunology and its clinical relevance and exercise in dentistry has led to the origin of this book.

The book is divided into 16 chapters which are very in depth in nature and cover all aspects of oral immunology. The first three chapters provide a solid foundation to the basic principles of immunology, including the oral immune system and immune response, and mechanisms of immunity, which would provide a good understanding for undergraduate students. There is also a chapter that includes a detailed coverage on stem cell immunology, which is remarkably interesting to read. The next set of chapters cover clinical relevance of immunology related to different disciplines of dentistry, such as orthodontics, oral cancer, oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics. Final chapters shed light on the basic principles and applications of various immunological techniques commonly used for research and diagnostic purposes, and also on immunological research. The book concludes with a comprehensive index.

Every chapter in the book has a wealth of information for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and is enhanced with relevant illustrations and schematic presentations. Some of the complex subjects of immunology are simplified using templates, colour diagrams and illustrations for easy understanding of the end user.

To summarise, this excellent book provides an invaluable collection of useful information about oral immunology and its key aspect for dental medicine. This book is an essential read for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and is an enjoyable read for anyone or any clinician willing to have a good grasp of oral immunology and the immune system.

Overall, I have no doubt that this book would be highly recommended for students, graduates and those wishing to understand the core concepts of oral immunology.
