The European Society for the Study and Prevention of Infant Death will hold a Conference on Prevention of Infantile Apnea and Sudden Infant Death: On the Verge of the Millennium. The Conference will be held May 30-June 4, 1999 in Jerusalem, Israel, at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Call for Nominations 1999 and 2000 Agnes Higgins Award

The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation is seeking nominations of qualified persons for the 1999 and 2000 "Agnes Higgins Award."

The award is presented in recognition of distinguished achievement in research, education or clinical services in the field of maternal-fetal nutrition.

The candidate must have:

    been widely involved in maternal-fetal nutrition through teaching, research and/or clinical practice for at least five years;

  2. 2

    shown a demonstrable effect in raising the quality of maternal-fetal nutritional care through scholarly pursuits, research, education and/or practice;

  3. 3

    demonstrated ability to apply maternal-fetal nutritional standards of practice and/or facilitate their implementation by others.

Established in 1980, the award honors the late Agnes Higgins of the Montreal Diet Dispensary. Her innovation and years of service to the cause of improved maternal nutrition have contributed to the well-being of thousand of babies.

Winners for both years will be selected in 1999. The deadline for nominations is March 1, 1999.
