Neonatology Faculty Position

The Vanderbilt University Division of Neonatology is seeking a BC/BENEONATOLOGIST/PHYSICIAN SCIENTIST with a research emphasis in lung biology to fill a tenure-track faculty position. Strongest consideration will be given to a candidate who is now in a closely mentored role either in an extended fellowship or in a junior faculty position and who is ready to move to the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The person in this position will have no more than three months of clinical responsibility each year and will have sufficient space and technical assistance to meet the research needs. Full salary and research support will be provided for three years after which it is anticipated that the individual will begin to obtain independent funding. The research environment includes established investigators with proven track records in lung biology and lung development and the opportunity to establish collaborative relationships with exceptionally strong basic science departments. PEDIATRICIAN ENGAGED IN DEVELOPMENTAL RESEARCH

The Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) seeks a pediatrician to participate in the interdisciplinary clinical research program at the Rose F. Kennedy Center for Research in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Applications are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The Head of the Department of Paediatrics functions also as Paediatrician-in-Chief within Hotel Dicu and Kingston General Hospitals, the two tertiary care teaching hospitals within the Health Sciences Centre. We are searching for an outstanding academic paediatrician with proven administrative experience and strong leadership who, as Head, will foster excellence in teaching and patient care while strongly supporting the development of research within the Department. We are particularly interested in an academic who can assist in defining the appropriate interface between primary child health care (family medicine) and the discipline of paediatrics through a consultative and supportive approach. The qualified applicant shall have a relevant background in teaching and research and, in order to meet the requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure requirements in the Province of Ontario, must be of sufficient academic stature to merit appointment at the rank of full professor.

The 7th International Congress on Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses (NCLs) will be held June 13-16, 1998 in Dallas, Texas, at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. This meeting is organized by Dr. Michael Bennett of UT-Southwestern, and is supported by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and UT-Southwestern. The Congress will be the primary forum for the presentation of the latest research on NCLs (Batten Disease), a group of common neurodegenerative disorders affecting infants and children.

XXII International Congress of Pediatrics

The XXII International Congress of Pediatrics, organized every three years under the auspices of the International Pediatric Association, will be in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from August 9-14, 1998, and will focus on“From Grass Roots to Genes”. The four main themes are the child and society, infectious diseases vaccination, nutrition and disease, and congenital and hereditary diseases. Other topics relating to general pediatrics and pediatric subspecialities such as surgery, neurology, child psychiatry and dermatology will also be discussed. All presentations will be given in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish for the plenary sessions.
