FACULTY POSITIONS IN PEDIATRIC DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY

Applications are now being accepted for four new tenure-track faculty in Pediatrics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor for a new research group centered on cardiac developmental biology. Pediatric subspecialists in cardiology, neonatology and pulmonary medicine with interests in the molecular regulation of lineage determination, cell cycle regulation, and terminal differentiation as they pertain to cardiomyocytes, the coronary arteries, and the cardiac nervous system are sought. There is particular interest to assemble a group of investigators with complementary systems approaches.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and have a record of research productivity and grant support. Successful candidates will have academic appointments in Pediatrics and in a basic science department of the Medical School and are expected to establish a strong externally funded research program and contribute to graduate and medical education. Positions come with generous start up packages.

This recruitment represents an expansion of the Herman B Wells Center, a highly interactive and multi-disciplinary research center with clinical responsibilities at the Riley Hospital for Children. Active programs currently include cardiomyocyte cell cycle regulation, hematopoiesis and myeloid gene regulation, gene therapy, DNA repair and fetal and neonatal metabolic physiology. Transgenic and gene targeting facilities and a mass spectrometry core facility are available on site.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, summary of research accomplishments and future research plans and the names of at least three references by September 30, 1998 to: Dr. Loren Field; Chair, Search Committee; Wells Center for Pediatric Research; Riley Hospital for Children; 702 Barnhill Drive, Room 2600; Indianapolis, IN 46202;ljfield@iupui.edu

PEDIATRIC-NEONATAL ICU DESIGN AWARD

CALL FOR ENTRIES $1500 to be awarded to best ICU Design

The 1999 ICU Design Citation will be awarded to a Pediatric or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This award honors a critical care unit which combines functional ICU design with the humanitarian delivery of critical care and recognizes exceptionally designed units. The award of $1,500 is sponsored by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), and the American Institute of Architects Academy on Architecture for Health. Applications for this award must be submitted by August 15, 1998. To receive an application, contact Tracey Kane at AACN:800.899.2226 ×415.

The submitted materials of the winning and honorable mention entries have been compiled into a notebook/video cassette package. This package is a valuable tool for ICU design teams looking for ideas ranging from space planning to details. Critical Care Unit Design & Furnishing is a guidebook developed to help each member of the team make their optimal contribution throughout the design process from conception to fruition. These products are available by calling SCCM at 714.282.6000.
