Abstract
Introduction:
There is a need to assess new initiatives in General Practice, amongst them targeted specialist asthma clinics. The Juniper Quality of Life Questionnaire has been well validated in a wide range of settings for assessment of Asthma.
Methods:
A new targeted specialist asthma clinic was set up in a single practice. Subjects were asked to complete the Juniper Quality of Life Questionnaire prior to attendance at the clinic intervention. They were then given the questionnaire one year after attendance and clinic intervention. Paired results were obtained for 25 subjects.
Results:
The total mean Juniper Quality of Life Score was slightly lower after the intervention in the 25 subjects (4.86 of 4.92) (n.s.) but this did not reach the level of clinical significance.
The Questionnaire was easy to administer and score.
Conclusion:
The targeted specialist asthma clinic did not affect Asthma Specific Quality of Life.
The Juniper Quality of Life Score is an easy and practical method for assessing new initiatives in General Practice.
