Abstract
There is evidence to suggest that quasars are active nuclei of galaxies most of which formed at z ∼ 2.5 when the age of the Universe was 1,000–2,000 Myr. During the same period of time the intergalactic gas should have formed in clusters, with a Fe abundance lower by a factor of 3 than that of oxygen. I argue here that the evolution time of the stars responsible for the synthesis of Fe nuclei (apparently supernovae Type 1, SN1) should be ∼1,500 Myr and their masses small, ∼1.7–1.5Mo.
