Abstract
Discrete chorus emissions observed for the first time at the low latitude ground station Bichpuri, Agra (geomagnetic lat. 17°12′ N, L∼1.1) are reported here. The emissions are of the riser type and occurred in the narrow frequency range 1.7–3 kHz. We show that these emissions are generated in the equatorial plane near L = 1.2 as a result of cyclotron resonance between whistler mode waves and the inner radiation belt relativistic electrons of energy 3–5 MeV, and propagated to the low latitude ground station under the influence of the horizontal density gradients of the equatorial anomaly.
