New type of igneous layering due to fractionation of Archaean ultramafic magma

Abstract

RESEARCH into the petrogenesis of the Bulong Complex1, near Kalgoorlie, Western Australia (Fig. 1), has indicated that it is composed largely of layered ultramafic cumulates which exhibit both phase and cryptic layering indicative of low pressure fractionation of Archaean ultramafic magma.
