Abstract
A CASE is made for considering the influence of melting icebergs on the oceanographic characteristics of the Weddell Sea. In particular, the equivalent upwelling produced by melting must play a large factor in the supply of nutrients to the surface layers of this ocean. It might be, for example, that the slowly moving icebergs leave behind a trail of nutrient enhanced surface fluid. The need for testing such a hypothesis is clear.
