Abstract
Magnetostratigraphy of a terrestrial sedimentary sequence in the San Juan Basin reveals that the Cretaceous–Tertiary boundary, recognised by the highest stratigraphic occurrence of dinosaurs, is younger than the midpoint of marine magnetic anomaly 29. This boundary is slightly younger than, but very close to, the Cretaceous–Tertiary boundary in the marine sedimentary sequence at Gubbio, Italy, which has recently been proposed as the magneto-stratigraphic type section for the Upper Cretaceous and Palaeocene.
