Abstract
THE membranes of many cells exhibit a K-selective permeability mechanism with a gating process controlled by the concentration of Ca2+ in the cytosol1. Originally described in human red cells2, where its function still remains unknown, this or similar mechanisms3 seem to mediate important physiological actions in other cells4–8.
